New collector's banknote
 (21-08-2017)

On 21 August 2017 the National Bank of Poland issued a new collector’s banknote manufactured by Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych S.A..

  • Designer: Justyna Kopecka
  • Denomination: 20 zlotys
  • Dimensions: 150 mm x 77 mm
  • Circulation: up to 50 000 notes

This 20 zloty banknote commemorates the 300 th anniversary of the coronation of the painting of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa. The character of Virgin Mary and the history of this miraculous painting are deeply rooted in the Poles’ awareness. This banknote is the ninth in the series of Polish collector’s banknotes.  It is printed on a paper banknote substrate, and in addition to beautiful art it also features a number of state-of-the-art security features. It is the first collector’s banknote to feature a multi-tone watermark that changes smoothly into a wire watermark, as well as multi-colour UV (on the reverse).

The banknote was designed by Ms Justyna Kopecka, an artist working for Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych S.A.. The banknote’s obverse shows the images of the crowns donated by the Pope Clement XI. The reverse features a print from the collections of the Vatican Library dated 1717.

The National Bank of Poland has the exclusive right to issue coins and banknotes in Poland. All types of currency issued by the National Bank of Poland – including the collector’s banknotes and coins – are legal tenders in Poland.
