New document personalisation centre in Armenia
 (20-09-2013)

From 19 September 2013 the passports and electronic ID cards for the Republic of Armenia will be personalised in a new facility. On this day the new centre was visited by Serzh Sarkisjan, the President of the Republic of Armenia.

In 2012 PWPW completed the project of implementing a comprehensive system for issuing biometric passports and electronic IDs for the Republic of Armenia. Pursuant to the provisions of the five-year technical support agreement, PWPW will be responsible for the system’s maintenance.

Over the last 6 days the whole Data Centre was being migrated to the new location. A detailed migration plan specifying the risk areas, the boundary conditions and replacement plans so that the migration do not interrupt the document issuance process had been prepared in co-operation with the Police and the local partner, Smart-Tech. The whole server-and-hardware and application infrastructure was transferred. Then the complete production environment together with the network infrastructure, the biometric systems and the production machines was started up at the destination.

The documents are currently being produced at the Police building located at the following address: 17/10 Davtashen 4th District, Yerevan. The new location is better adapted for performing this function as it ensures correct placement of the system’s individual units with respect to one another. The Data Centre’s task is to handle the applications submitted from 61 regional centres in Armenia. The Document Personalisation Centre’s launch in 2012 contributed to increasing the level of security in the process of issuing the most important documents in the country, because it eliminated the circulation of non-personalised document blanks, minimising the possible risk of their theft or unauthorised personalisation.

This contract performed for the Republic of Armenia is not the only foreign project of PWPW’s concerning the production of IDs and passports. The company has completed a similar project for the Republic of Lithuania. It also manufactures secured paper for the production of passports for Turkey, Slovakia, Montenegro and Cambodia, among other countries.
