Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860–1941)
 (08-11-2010)

November 6th is the 150th birthday anniversary of Polish Security Printing Works founder – an eminent pianist, patriot and statesman.

Ignacy Jan Paderewski was born in 1860 in Kurilovka, in the Podolia Governorate, died on 29 June 1941 in New York. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington D.C. In 1992, his body was brought to Warsaw and placed in St. John's Cathedral in the Old Town.

Pianist and politician

From January to December 1919 Paderewski served as the Prime Minister of Poland. In that time at the 21st Council of Ministers of Poland, on January 25th, he approved the protocol  i.a. establishing  the State Graphic Works (Państwowe Zakłady Graficzne - PZG), which were the beginning of Polish Security Printing Works.

When Paderewski was signing the document starting the activities that led to the foundation of our company, he was already a famous Polish pianist and composer. He was also known in the United States and Europe for promoting Polish affairs. As an international political and cultural authority he played a huge role in the creation of the independent Polish State.

PWPW S.A. Patron

On 25 January 1999, the eightieth anniversary of our company establishment, the Management Board of Polish Security Printing Works held a solemn meeting at which by virtue of resolution January 25th was constituted as Day of PWPW and Paderewski was chosen as a patron of the company.

We have not forgotten about this great character. On November 6th the representatives of PWPW S.A. Management Board placed flowers on the grave of the great composer, and on November 8th we organize a concert of Paderewski’s music at the Royal Castle.

Ignacy Jan Paderewski: "The matter of the nation is not an interest which should be abandoned when it brings losses instead of profit. The matter of the nation is a constant work from generation to generation, steadfast persistence, incessant self-sacrifice. Should it be never relinquished, on the contrary, wherever possible, should it always be provided for.”
